Documentary Website Design, Part I: Resource List

I have two internships, a research assistantship, and a part-time job that’s really a no-time job so that doesn’t count. And I hate having to look up the same things over and over again.

For one of the internships, I made a simple website layout for a documentary. (It took longer than I thought because I thought that Macbooks are indestructible. Tip: They’re not.)

Simple, but I’m still proud of it. I haven’t designed something from scratch in a while. You’ll have to take my word for it. For privacy reasons, I can’t share the actual design with you, but below is a resource list of what I found useful when making it.

Basic Web Design Resources

For the documentary site

Create rounded corners: css.info’s Border-radius: create rounded corners with CSS!

Filler text (hipster lorem ipsum): at hipsteripsum.me

Create menus with CSS: Complete Toolbox: 55 CSS Menu And Button Coding Tutorials

Tutorials are one thing, but if you learn by in-depth explanations with images: check out this article UNDERSTANDING AND UNLEASHING THE POWER OF CSS LAYOUTS

Social media buttons: CSS Social Buttons

As always, answers to basic CSS queries: at w3schools.com

CSS design inspiration: at CSS Zen Garden

Simple tutorials on CSS floats: at Floatutorial

I’ll add to this list whenever I find simple + helpful tutorials and websites.

Soon, I will be making this layout into a WordPress theme (but that’ll be a separate post). Ciao!
